History of E-commerce

Nowadays e-commerce are very common around the world. E-commerce also known as electronic-commerce. E-commerce is the process of buying, selling or exchanging products and services on the Internet. Its conducted using electronic data transmission technologies such as those used on the Internet and the world wide web(www). Originally, electronic commerce mean the facilitation of commercial transaction electronically, using technology such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). These two that allow business to send commercial documents like purchase orders or involves electronically in late 1970s.

Beside that, electronic commerce would additionally include enterprise resource planning systems (ERP), data mining and data warehousing. The term ‘electronic commerce’ was stated that when Internet became commercialized and users began flocking to participate in the World Wide Web in the early of 1990. E-commerce applications were then rapidly expanded. Possibly it is introduced from the Telephone Exchange Office. Beside that,the Boston Computer Exchange, a marketplace for used computers launched in 1982. The first online information marketplace, including online consulting, was likely the American Information Exchange, another pre-Internet online system introduced in 1991.


Evolution of E-commerce

Since 1995, there have many innovative applications due to ranging from direct online sales to e-learning experiences had been developed. Online retailers sometimes known as e-tailers and online retail known as e-tail.Almost every organization in the world has a Web site. Electronic commerce can conducted between business referred as business to business or B2B .In 1999, the emphasis of e-commerce shifted from B2C to B2B. However, it changed from B2B to B2E, e-government, e-learning, and m-commerce.In 2005, social networks started to rise and so did l-commerce and wireless applications.E-commerce will be continue to shift and change in the next future.

1992

1994
Netscape arrived and it providing users a simple browser to surf the internet and a safe online transaction technology called Secure Sockects Layer. The first online bank opened. Attempt to offer flowers delivery and magazine subscription online. Adult materials were also commercially available, as were cars and bike. Netscape 1.0 in late 1994 introduced SSL encryption that made transaction secure.
1995
Two of the biggest name in e-commerce are Amazon.com and ebay.com. Jeff Bezos launched Amazon.com and the first commercial-free 24 hour, internet-only radio stations, Radio Hk and NetRadio started broadcasting. Dell and Cisco began to aggressively use internet for commercial transaction. ebay was founded by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar as AuctionWeb.
1998
Electronic postal stamps can be purchased and downloaded for printing from Web.
1999
Retail spending over the internet reaches $2o billion according to Business.com; Business.com was sold for US $7.5 million which was purchased in 1997 for US $150,000. The peer-to-peer filesharing software Napster was launched.
2000
The dot-com bust
2003
Amazon.com had its first year with a full year of profit.
